Mary and Jim came out to the Max last Friday to hear a bit of music. They even danced one dance that I noticed. Mary was a lot tired from the Spirit Walk fundraiser that day. Jim had battled the storm the night before to drive a roundabout way back to GF from ... where? ... Podunkville, I believe.
Saturday morning, Mom and I had breakfast and a few good laughs. We talked about the sale of her house (signed off on Friday) and other family news. She made it clear that she doesn't want anything for Mother's Day, which then puts the challenge in front of all of us -- what shall we do for Mother's Day? Anyway, we split a couple games of cribbage and called it good.
Saturday evening, Maurika came to Helena from Missoula for a belated birthday celebration. Ann was away for the weekend at a Buddhist retreat (which she enjoyed immensely), so Mo and I had a great time -- we went out for some music, visited a lot, and played cribbage. Jan and Marc came over for brunch on Sunday (with Jan's signature cinnamon twists). We visited and got in a game of pinochle -- the Buyskes won.
Today I got news (although Maurika had spilled the beans a bit earlier) that the Philpots adopted a pound dog. We'll be looking for photos in this space, along with testimony about the hound's good character.
I hope you're all aware that Thursday is Desiree's 30th birthday. Woo hoo! We'll look for all kinds of news about that celebration, once it rolls around.

It's little updates like these that really make me wish we lived closer to home. What a nice weekend visiting with family.
Yes, Diz turns 30 on Thursday, but she is in Phoenix on trial for the entire month of May. She's doing great, and I'm really proud of how hard she is working. Luckily, she gets to fly back for weekends, so we'll have a nice dinner on Friday (her big party is June 5th, if anyone would like to make a quick trip out to Chicago).
In other news, the weather is finally breaking here in Chicago, so I dusted off the scooter and have been riding it around the city - taking the long way to work, down through Lincoln Park to enjoy the smells of spring.
Good thing you are not in Montana with that scooter Abe. We can't seem to shake the wind and snow. It is either one or the other. We are traveling to South Dakota this weekend to watch Molly's play and it is supposed to be snowy. We will spend Friday night in Billings to celebrate Joey's 29th birthday! Oh my - my baby boy is growing up :(! How fun it would be to be in Chicago for the festivities of Desiree's 30th but alas we will be in Bozeman cheering Jen through her first marathon.
Oh and Johnny and Rika - thanks again for the great breakfast and the great game of pinochle!
