Grilled Cheese Throw-Down
As some of you may have been privy to, there have been rumblings among the Moore clan about a grilled cheese sandwich throw-down over the Thanksgiving holiday. Those mentioned in the mix have been Nate, Desiree, and myself, as far as I know so far. We are planning on having an Iron Chef-esque contest with our grilled cheese sandwiches, with judges to boot. So, what we are looking for are any other interested parties in competing, and some who may be interested in judging. We would take the names of those interested in judging and put them in a hat, then draw three names to be the final judges. So far the rules are still being ironed out, but I think the one constant so far is that the cooking will take place with only the chefs allowed in the kitchen, and the judges will taste each concoction without the knowledge of who created it, so as not to impart any unfair biases. I also think Friday would be a perfect day for this contest to occur, in an attempt to break up the post-Turkey day sandwich monotony.
So, if you are interested in cooking or judging, post your intentions here so we can get this ball rolling. This Turkey Day is shaping up to be a momentous occasion in the Moore family, so let's just add to the memories!

You know I really would throw myself in the mix of making a master sandwich, wishing again that I could be there. Good Luck to all!!
Throw my name in the hat to be a judge. Can't wait for this one.
Tom
I'll go in the judge pool.
I'm considering an entry, but it's dangerous to go head to head with Diz. I may end up just eating the leftovers after the judges have spoken.
I would be willing to be a judge...sounds like great fun! I will even offer my kitchen for the "great event!"
enter my mad skills, i'm the grill cheezy master!!! my name is maurika montoya - prepare to fry.
also, i'd like to add, the vintage picture on the top of this post would be great for shirts if that's in the mix.
I'm always up for chowing down on some grilled cheese for sure!! Me and Little One will help judge...yum, yum!!
rika...i won't be there..but i am voting for you just for pulling out the princess bride quote...classic...and well played!
You guys will be battling for second place.
Jim W would also like to be one of the chefs in this great cook off~add him to the list...
Abe finally invited me to join in the blog! Perfect timing. I agree with Nate -- he and the others (welcome, Rika!) will be battling for second place. Love to all.
First off, I'm jealous I will be missing all the festivities (I think you guys plan this stuff when you know the real competition--being Jen and I--will be gone. Second, I'm eating tomato soup right now and would love a twist on the classic grilled cheese so if someone could get on that, that'd be great. Third, I think those of you who don't end up being judges should be lovingly (and appropriately) called "The Disposals" since you will most likely be eating all the leftovers, which isn't a bad gig. You get to eat and not have to make a decision! Miss you all! Much love.
This is too funny!!! Love the picture, Joey. Where oh where did you dig that up? Of course, I am rooting for Joey since I know he makes a mean grilled cheese. I am sorry you other three will be picking up crumbs!! Have a GREAT time all!! We want to hear the news when all is said and done!
hmm, as much as i would love to be the michael phelps of turkey day festivities, first winning the 5k "burn the bird" walk off, then flashing my iron-like chef-ing abilities in the grill cheese sandwich-off, then probably winning at least 20 games in singles and doubles cribbage, i think i will bow out of the grilled cheesing. however, I would love to judge
ha. this is getting feisty. i like it... "the grilled cheezy has a first place: it's r-i-k-a yeah... the grilled cheezy has a second place it's - "
oh heck. no one really cares about second place.
i'll still love you guys tho -
The plaque for the alternates is in the ladie's room.
Lotsa smack talk. It comes down to who makes the best lip-smackin' sammich. Talkin' don't do it. But I'm enjoyin' the noise.
johnny is right...and remember, if you get too fancy with it...it no longer becomes grilled cheese, but a fancy sandwhich with melted cheese on it..so be careful, and those of you who are judging, keep your eyes out for that...don't be deceived!!
Hey, hey, hey. Let's leave the rules to those cool (fortunate) enough to be attending this competition (for second place behind me, of course).
I think it's a good rule. You can't just put anything in the sandwich cuz then it's not grilled cheese, it's cheese with a bunch of other crap in it. And yes, you are fortunate to be able to attend this family function that will most likely be happening less and less the busier our family gets. Thanks for rubbing it in for those of us who can't make it Nate. Just kidding, but I am bummed I can't come! I will enjoy my turkey tv dinner, though. I'm sure there's bound to be something good on the Hallmark channel.
Hey guys. This idea sounds awesome. First heard it from mother and was excited to see everyone's creations. I would particpate in the grilling and the chessing but Nate and ben would end up making fun of me and my skills. They know what im talking about. If possible im volunteering my skills to judge. Alwaya wanted to be a food critic.
Cant wait to see yall!!!
Sam W.
MB is in for grilling. At my age and condition, I think my skills will help most on the sidelines. She said she is bringing a Cali/Midwest swing that none of you will even know what to do with except drool over. She specifically called out Nate and his lack of creativity and coolness. Eat it (literally)!! And by the way Nate, there's two O's in Goose.
No, no, Jake... there are two O's in Moore.
RULES?! yeah. when you can't stop asking for more of my my amazing sammy - we'll know who's won.
woot! (that has 2 O's too...) hey!
I think the winner ought to get Maurika's aforementioned tee shirt. MB, I've always wondered what California would be like in the Midwest...sounds intriguing. Practice up, folks, I only want the best of the best. The top 1 per cent.
O by the way... I think some is gonna need to cookup a whole mess of Tomato Soup. Any takers?
MB -- I'm So. Cal to Chicago. Sorry lady but you've got nothing on me.
Oh, snap! It's a "Cat Fight"... (Abe,D, and Jake will especially love the pun). I am Montana to the Tex-Mex South and I am thinking of a Rocky Mountain Oyster and Salsa Grilled Cheese.
I agree with the aforementioned Tomato Soup, but maybe it should be reserved for after judging is completed so as to not taint the palates.
MB wanted to say to D. You maybe Cali to Midwest but she's got Nelly as an inspiration and everyone knows he cooks the phatest sammies in the rap game. It's a Midwest swing y'all . Batter up in my air force ones.
But you know what Nelly says about Missouri (my state in the family): "M-I-crooked letter-crooked letter-O-U-R-I, No one can do it better." He's def talking about cookin' grilled cheese sandys.
I would love to be judgin' this smack down, put my name in the hat.
And Peter would love to put his name in to compete (there will be no shit talking from Peter - but I would be brushin' up on my skills if I were competing - just sayin').
We won't discuss what he will be creating for this competition - so there will be no nepotism, don't worry.
Can't wait!!
Jake and MB -- We've got Kanye -- Nelly is so 2002. Nate, let's leave Cat Fight out of this. Also, someone better watch Peter. He looks innocent but he's good at slipping Peter Pills to the judges when they least expect it.
